ONE-DAY SEMINAR ON SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE MINING.

MSc. Programme in Mining with Mineral Technology had successfully organized a “One-day Seminar on Sustainable and Responsible Mining” on 28th May 2022 in Dewan Tun Fatimah UMP Gambang. This seminar is part of academic collaboration initiative under MoU agreement between Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Jabatan Mineral dan Geosains Malaysia (JMG). It was attended by around 40 participants from industry and also joined by several UMP staff and undergraduate students. The seminar started in the morning session with welcoming address by FTKKP Dean, Professor Ts. Dr. Che Ku Mohammad Faizal Bin Che Ku Yahya. In his speech, the Dean highlighted the importance of university to play active role in community and industrial engagement which is in-line with UMP’s tagline of ‘communitizing technology’.  He also has his highest expectation for the seminar to be a main platform for mining professionals, mining owners, researchers, academics and related agencies to discuss local issues, current development and best practices in responsible mining.

The morning session was continued with first lecture slot by Dato’ Ir Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham Bin Abdul Aziz from ALAM, UMP, followed by second lecture slot by En. Hanizam Shah Bin Saidin from Jabatan Mineral dan Geosains Malaysia. The morning session was concluded by the third speaker, En. Shaharani Bin Abdul Ghani of Pejabat Tanah dan Galian Pahang. The afternoon session resume with a panel discussion forum which was moderated by Ts Dr Norasyikin Binti Ismail. Dato’ Ir Ts. Dr. Badhrulhisham Bin Abdul Aziz and En. Hanizam Shah Bin Saidin was invited again as the first and second panel of the discussion, while En. Muhammad Hisyham Bin Abdullah from Jabatan Alam Sekitar Pahang become third panel. FTKKP Deputy Dean of Research and Postgraduate Study, Dr Mazni Binti Ismail concluded the afternoon session with a closing remark. The seminar had been extremely beneficial and fruitful as both participants and speakers managed to share their experience, knowledge, new ideas and best practices in mining and mineral industry.
